X: Maria confirmed/bekreftet

Having a confirmation in Norway is a big deal. It is similar to turning 21 in Australia and the US, with all family, gifts, food and speeches. Traditionally, confirmation is both confirming one’s baptism (in the state church given at birth), but also being enrolled amongst the adults in church (when aged 14-15). After the church service is over, the celebration takes place.

This year my cousin Maria was up. Family and friends came from either side to make the day memorable. Food, pictures, speeches, songs, talking, presents and fun filled the Sunday in the city of Oslo. The church service was held at Messiaskirken, where Maria’s father (my uncle) is the pastor.

I was the assigned photographer, and down below is an album with a selection of some of the pictures.

Konfirmasjon er fine ting. Også søskenbarn Marias. Gudstjenesten til Messiaskirken, kirken startet av hennes far Torkild (pastor) og mor Inger, min onkel og tante, fylte opp møtelokalet i Trafikanten. Maten og festen ble konsumert i Høgskolen i Staffelsgate, mens de offisielle bildene ble knispet i Slottsparken. Gjestene bestod primært i familie og faddere på begge sider, inkludert mine foreldre og andre nære slektninger det var stas å se igjen.

Undertegnede var fotograf, og knipset nærmere 350 bilder. Cirka 180 av disse ble bevart og navngitt. Et fåtall er også tilgjengelig i albumet under.
