Moon Estates is a British firm with permission from the Lunar Embassy to put property of the moon, Venus and Mars on the market. As the The Outer Space Treaty (1967) and the Moon Treaty (1984) only prevents governments from exploiting the solar system objects commercially, the possibilities are still spacey for businesses. Moon Estates promises that each piece of land will only be sold once. They can not prevent astronauts from trespassing your property to explore. But if NASA or anyone else is to drill for oil or erect a holiday cabin – the issue is entirely different. Trade and utilization of possible aliens is not discussed on the web page.

For about 20 pounds (VAT included) you can buy an acre on one of the three space articles, and be sent official papers of the ownership. Before you buy you must consider the fact that the closest space body is approximately 385,000 kilometers away, has a temperature swing from plus 100 to minus 155 degrees Celsius within the scope of the day. Not too practical if you ask me, but it might just be a cool thing to possess anyway.
